Fabrication Shop Inspections

Keville Enterprises, Inc. provides fabrication shop inspection and testing services for structural steel materials for a number of state DOT’s. Under these contracts, KEI routinely provides shop inspection of the fabrication of structural steel, including welded plate girders, rolled beams with welded cover plates, diaphragms, stiffeners, connection and splice plates, expansion and bearing devices, and protective coatings. KEI’s specialty inspection staff ensures compliance with AWS, NACE, ASNT, AASHTO and state requirements. We provide ultrasonic, liquid penetrant, and magnetic particle testing and inspection services, as well as NACE coatings inspections. KEI provides inspection and testing services for the following:

• mill testing

• cutting and straightening of material

• splices, joints & connections

• shop assemblies

• welding

• coatings/painting

• bearings

• butt welds

• fillet welds

In addition, KEI also provides field inspection services during the construction phases of its projects, helping to ensure the quality of the construction and conformance with the plans and specifications. KEI routinely provides construction phase specialty inspections such as:

• performing visual verification inspections for the welding and fit-up   of the structural steel members

• reviewing in-process welding

• oversight and observation of UT Tech

• reviewing material test reports

• spot checking radiographs

• checking heat numbers

• observing weld prep being made for web splices

• observing the radiography of welder qualification test plates

• observing the fit up of splices

CWI (Welding)

Our welding inspectors possess multiple certifications and have completed extensive training and course work. Many of our inspectors conduct training courses on metals and welding inspection and oversight. Our project experience includes the following:

NACE (Coatings)

Our NACE Certified coating inspectors are highly qualified and have an average of 15 years experience. We have performed coating inspections on bridges, highway structures, pipelines, storage tanks, industrial/process facilities, ships, barges, and many other types of structures. Our coating inspection services include the following:

• daily in-process and final acceptance inspections for all surface   preparation and paint coating applications

• verifying environmental conditions such as relative humidity, dew   point, and surface temperatures

• verifying dry film thickness between coats and final system dry film   thickness using elcometers and digital thickness gages

• verifying the calibration of all measuring and test equipment

• performing receipt inspection on abrasive blast grit and paint   materials

• witnessing the mixing of paint systems in accordance with    manufacturer's specifications

• reviewing material certifications and certificates of compliance

• documentation and filing of inspections and test results

• review of lead paint disposal areas

• inspecting containments for proper seal, cross, and down draft

• development of custom monthly status reports
